Safety & Moderation Policy

Last updated May 2026

Our commitment

queer.bar exists to be a safer place for LGBTQ+ people. We combine community tools (blocking, reporting) with moderation review to act on content and behaviour that breaks our Community Guidelines.

Blocking

Anyone can block another user. A block is symmetric in effect: you and the blocked person no longer see each other's posts or comments, can't message each other, and any follow between you is removed. Blocking is private · the other person isn't notified.

Reporting

Posts, comments, users and messages can be reported with a reason (spam, harassment, hate speech, violence, sexual content involving minors, self-harm, impersonation, underage, and more). Reports go to a moderation queue for review. Reporting is confidential.

What we action

We remove content and may restrict or remove accounts for: hate speech and harassment, threats or incitement to violence, sexual content involving minors (reported immediately to the appropriate authorities), non-consensual intimate content, doxxing or outing, spam and scams, and ban evasion.

Illegal content & DSA

In line with the EU Digital Services Act, we provide accessible reporting, act on valid notices, and aim to be transparent about moderation. Manifestly illegal content is prioritised. A point of contact for authorities and users will be published as the platform scales.

Age & under-18s

Adult/nightlife content is gated to verified 18+ users. Accounts and content that appear to involve under-18s in adult contexts are removed. Report anyone who appears underage in such contexts using the "User appears under 18" reason.

Emergencies

If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. For urgent safety issues on the platform, email safety@queer.bar.

Appeals

If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, you can appeal it at /appeal. When we remove your content we notify you with a direct link to appeal; a moderator reviews every appeal and you're told the outcome. A granted appeal restores the content. For urgent safety issues, email safety@queer.bar.

Honest status

This is an early-stage platform. Moderation is partly manual and tooling is still being built. We publish this policy now to set expectations and obligations clearly, and will strengthen it as the platform grows.

These documents are provided in good faith and describe how queer.bar currently works. They are drafts and not legal advice; have them reviewed by a qualified lawyer before relying on them. Compliance with GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act 2018, and US/EU privacy laws is an ongoing organisational responsibility, not something software alone establishes.
